What is Namonai?

Namonai is a online art platform based in Tokyo. We nurture and empower budding Japanese artists to manage and sell their artwork globally. The name ‘Namonai’ is Japanese, 「名も無い」, meaning ‘Not even a name’. We aim to build this platform for Japanese artists who can not even claim a name yet. Namonai will break the long-standing Japanese-English and Japanese-Chinese language barriers to give Japanese artists a fair chance to sell their art and make a name for themselves globally.

Our Mission

Support Artists

To support aspiring artists in Japan and the rest of the world by offering them exposure through an innovative platform where they can market and sell their art.

Provide Artwork

Providing the works of Japanese artists at reasonable prices to people all over the world.

Create Culture

To create a culture in Japan of collecting art from artists of all ages.

Why we do what we do

We do what we do because we are passionate about artists and their artworks. Regardless of country, the most challenging time of an artist’s career is during their 20s. It can be extremely difficult to sign with a prestigious gallery to sell their artwork. Struggling artists must work part time jobs while creating their art just to survive. They continue to pay for expensive rental galleries or partner with high commission gallery spaces. Unfortunately, these difficult conditions force many artists to give up during these formative years. With luck, those who continue to press on will eventually become financially independent in their 30s when their artistic style has matured. This is the time when artists begin to land contracts with a respected galleries and continue to mature in their craft. Connections with museums, art organizations and collectors gradually increase, and the artist becomes independent.

Our plan

By combining our experience in the art world with language, design and technological ability, we at Namonai support artists through this challenging formative period. Through social media platforms around the world and our combined native Japanese, Chinese, and English ability, we accurately represent the works of the artists on the Namonai platform. We empower artists to upload, sell and promote their own works. Namonai is a unique platform where young artists, collectors, art lovers and art dealers gather.

Our team

Based in Tokyo and the Los Angeles, our international team comes from professional backgrounds in business, design, and web technology. In addition, we have more than 10 combined years of experience in the professional art industry.
